Governor John J McKeithen (1964-1972). First two-term governor and responsible for the building of the Louisiana Superdome.

Sad it took this long to get to Big John. He largely got Louisiana through the 60s with out looking like Mississippi or Alabama. When the Klan and the Panthers were going to go to war in Baton Rouge McKeithen secretly paid them both off to go home. Debate the merits of paying off violent racists, but the man kept them from killing each other and creating havoc in Baton Rouge.

He also recruited LSU’s first black football player and got his arse on a plane and recruited plants to come to Louisiana. Every professional jambalaya chef/opuhratuh might owe him a bit of thanks.

At the same time he was a vestige Longism.

If Louisiana could get him elected Sen. John Neely Kennedy would help them a lot.

He would’ve been elected in 2019 but decided to stay in DC.
