I stayed at The Langham last time I went. LINK I think the nearest tube is Oxford Circus. Oxford and Regent. I also stayed at a nice spot near Russell Square one year that was a bit sleepier.

Staying somewhere near Covent Garden or Leicester Square would be the winner I think . That's kind of the tourist center of things. Soho and Westminster would also work depending on what you want to do.

I'm hoping to grab an apartment on Air BbB. I've seen some good deals for areas I was interested it. I know I'll have to grab some kind of public transport but hoping to walk as much as possible.

Trafalgar square is about as centrally located as you can get.

Get a room in a b&b on Gower St. by the University. Among other things, you'll be a block away from the British Museum, which you'll spend two days in. Walking distance to Traf. Sq., British Library (another must); easy tube and bus connections to anywhere else in town. Gower St. by the U.

Covent Garden

Sorry, but

I guess you can stay somewhere in that area, but CG is a shite hole. Avoid.

I like that area a lot too. The food truck outside the British Museum run by a young Italian couple sells Muffalettas.

But staying near Leicester Square would be great for a first time visitor who wants to walk, imho. Although, with the tube being everywhere, it really doesn't matter like a lot of cities.

I'm a fan of picking a direction and walking after I've hit my list of spots. Granted, my list is damn long. I just need to know where the muslim neighborhoods are

smart man.

London is an awesome town for night walking, and the area I referred you to, being close to the university, has a lot of interesting stuff going on, loud pubs, eats, etc.

The Muslim area is called "Europe". Just avoid that part, and you should retain your head.

As the guy above says, I'll withdraw Covent Garden and do a day trip there for shops/restaurants. Leicester Square is your winner. Theatres, Chinatown, Restaurants, all within easy (and crowded) walking distance.

Piccadilly Circus area if you plan on going out to bars at night. The tube shuts down pretty early from I remember and we had to take an expensive cab ride back to where we were staying.

We loved staying at the St Pancras Marriot in Kings Cross. Super Baller hotel if you want it to be.

How much a night was that? I could afford it but it would severely eat into my budget for other shite. Still haven't decided if I am going to shoot over to Paris or not.

We had the associates and friends rate through Marriot, so I think it was like 150 quid.

One big perk about staying there is that it's spitting distance from the Chunnel train. The station is literally attached to the hotel/subway station.
