Best “alternative mattress” you’re familiar with?

By “alternative”, I mean other than mattress store main brands (Serta, Sealy, etc.)

Brands like Purple, Tuft & Needle, etc. (the mattresses that come vacuum sealed in the mail)

I’ve got a T&N Queen and I love it, but I’m sure that the sleep technology has advanced since I bought it in 2015 and I’m not even sure where to start.

TIA

I've read somewhere that all of those "alternative" companies are just marketing companies that happen to make mattresses. They pay more in advertising than almost any other product. I also read that the cost to produce 1 mattress ( lets just use Nectar as an example) is something ridiculous like $18. Then they mark-up the product exponentially and sell it for 1000. THAT'S INSANE.

Similarly, every Tempur-pedic I've slept on is comfortable at first, but then I woke up in a puddle of my own sweat because theyre hot as hell.

+1; bought a second one for our guest room. Definitely went overboard and bought dreamzone wamsutta sheets. Slept perfect for last three years.

I found my Layla sleeps very cool, as advertised.

We have had a Purple 3 for almost a year now and it's fantastic.

We are also using the platform they sell as well without any box spring needed.

Ummm yeah. It’s just foam

Cost of marketing + shipping + eating the cost of all the returns (which are just sent to landfills at this point) is expensive, though

I had a Purple and gave it away after 2 months.

I just bought the new King Size Hybrid Temperpedic with a cooling mattress pad and it sleeps great.

I am a big guy and it does not get hot at all , nor does it dip.

Plus if I get up at night to pee, it is so stable that it doesn't wake up my wife.

Bonus tip : Target has some 100 % cotton deep pocket sheets that are really cool feeling and they wear very well for 40 bucks. Much better that the 200 buck sheets we first bought.

I bought a Reverie sleep system a few years ago due to chronic back pain and it has been, by far, The best bed/mattress that I have ever slept on. I had a sleep number bed before and this system is 100% better than that bed.

I'm returning my T&N Queen today (donating - per their request). I've had terrible back pain since I got it a month ago and found a review that said it's not recommended for people over 200 lbs (I'm 235.. insert fat joke). Going to do a little more research before I purchase my next one.
