I like taking the flight to Philly and hoping on the train to NYC....its a little more extra but I like the adventure and like someone said Newark airport isnt all peaches and cream.

Newark. Hop on NJ Transit into Penn Station and it's less than a 20 minute walk from there.

You're right, it's only 10 blocks or so. But if you have luggage, why wouldn't you just take the Subway? I think the 1 and 3 trains go from Penn station to Times Square

That said, I fly in to La Gaurdia and catch a cab.

That's still a pain in the arse with luggage.

LaGarbage is the way I go when wife and kids are in tow. I never have problems with cabs so have used those historically. I did try dial 7 black car service and ended up waiting the same amount of time for a ride that wasn't much different. Definitely don't do the subway from there as it can be a pain in the arse getting to it from LGA.

Just fly into LGA and take a cab. The JFK subway trip will blow your mind if you have no NYC experience. Newark....well...its Newark.

Love NYC, but Times Square sucks.

Deli lunches and Irish Pub dinners are the only way to eat reasonably.

No doubt...I wouldn't do it, but it's better than walking 10 blocks with luggage.

That said, unless you are using public transport I would look into a private car service over a taxi. Price is about $10-15 extra, but well worth it. Can't stress that enough.

That sounds like a waste of money. I've never had a problem with NYC taxis.

I HIGHLY doubt they are allowed to pick up people from the airport in NYC

They picked us up from Newark. Requested it on their app while getting our luggage and they were there 2min later outside our door at baggage claim.

I didn't say you couldn't use it, I just said I doubt it is allowed! If they got caught I bet they would get a HUGE fine unless Uber pays for airport privileges for all drivers, which I doubt they do.

I'm actually in NYC this week. Staying in midtown west Manhattan. I flew into LAG and used UBER to bring to hotel so I wasn't waiting for a cab.
All in all the uber bill was 48.00 and about a 45 min hike during lunch traffic. Hope this helps.

Google Map's directions feature is a pretty good tool for getting around NYC. Whoever said to walk from Penn Station to Times Square is frickin nutso.

Just do a car service or uber. I wouldn't hump my luggage on a subway or other public transportation.

If you're gonna take the subway around the area take some time to familiarize yourself with the transit maps and schedules.

Ya I just googled it and it looks like I am wrong. I know its banned at LAX, and at a lot of other airports, so I figured NYC airports would be the same since they are so protective of cab drivers there. I guess use it while it lasts!

Taxi from LGA would be the quickest.

Newark is easier if you are set on public transportation. Take the airtran/NJ rail to penn station and then either walk a few blocks uptown or get on the subway and take any of the trains one stop.

What? It's 8 blocks on the same avenue. Less than half a mile. Unless he's lugging a huge suitcase it's a very easy walk and probably quicker than waiting for a train.

JFK is so much easier. Why not take the Long Island railroad into the city? It's so fast.

Flying into Laguardia wasn't bad. Times Square is a cab ride equivalent to MSY to the French Quarter. Think it was $38 with tip. Very easy to get a cab.

Flying out sucked. Partly our fault because we got there a little to early, but that airport is a shithole. Absolutely nothing past security. Just went in February.
