kevv, and all you other people that claim to tell the school to screw off.....do you have any idea what you are teaching your kids?
Assuming it is a public school, I would give the school a good view of the back of my middle finger.

Absolutely, to know what the law says and what it doesnt. Schools are not soverign. What I would be willing to tell my child is theres a time and place to say "no". There are a few instances when a person can be forced to do something. This is not one of those times.

Rules are rules. My kid would do his/her suspension. then i would put the little jackass to work around the house.
Even though he may/may not have been drinking?
Also, I cant imagine what the world would come to if we found out high school students drank beer. The sky might fall.
On another note, if the school was private I'd tell him to take his lumps and be more careful about where he drinks beer

You sign a contract agreeing to not use drugs and alcohol and if caught will face consequences. They admitted to it and broke the rules. I don't really know if entrapment qualifies there
Serious question- can a minor be held to a contract? If the parent signs it, is the school essentially punishing the kid for the parents willingness to abide by the contract?
This sounds shady.

Yeah. This is insanity. If thats a public school my kid wouldnt be going there and I would immediately run for the school board and try to change this. How this is constitutional and/or hasnt been challenged incourt is beyond me.
If its a private school...carry on.

If those students were such beer drinking badasses, they should have been on the football field and not the bleachers
This is all the parents' fault

Exactly...
Like a 15-16 year old drinking at a high school function.... seems like a perfect time to just say 'no'

Apparently so, it's a private school so by going there you agree to follow the rules in the handbook. I'm sure there is some sort of legal writing in it as the kids are mostly under 18 but it's not like I really read it when I was 15
