This sounds like grounds for lawsuit. That sounds like entrapment. Not sure if entrapment only applies to police though.

So, by your standards the school can never test anyone it suspected of drinking or doing drugs at a school function?

You sign a contract agreeing to not use drugs and alcohol and if caught will face consequences. They admitted to it and broke the rules. I don't really know if entrapment qualifies there

Fair. Are you also against students using drugs at school functions? Doing a rail off of a chick's boob in the stands? That actually does sound kinda fun.

Well, you seem like a rational person to converse with.

About 75 students ended up being tested at emergency rooms in Morristown, Denville and Dover, DailyRecord.com said. Fewer than five tested positive for alcohol.

Shocking!

My kid would have had a consequence free 3 day vacation if a school ever made such a demand.

I don't know what the cost of the would be, but if I was a parent of one of the seventy I would be requesting reimbursement for the cost (and time) for such a ridiculously unnecessary demand.

You should read the article

"If the test comes back positive, the parent is responsible for paying. Negative tests must be paid for by the board of education, the district's policy states."

So the parents had to find their own place within two hours. Frick that. Take the suspension on principal alone

I went to a private school,so the legal ramifications are different

However, our policy was 24/7 and they could test you anytime or anywhere for any reason

ASSUMING that this is actually in the handbook for the school......

kevv, and all you other people that claim to tell the school to screw off.....do you have any idea what you are teaching your kids? That it is ok to break the rules, and mommy/daddy will protect me.

Rules are rules. My kid would do his/her suspension. then i would put the little jackass to work around the house.

He would absolutely learn the lesson here....don't get caught!!!

Yep, a personal civics lesson in upholding the 4th amendment in the face of an overreaching authority.

And considering only 5 of 70 tested positive, it would have entirely proved the point.

Governance to the lowest common denominator is ignorant, lazy, and ineffective.

Damn. Back in the day half my school would have been suspended and that includes us on the football team playing the game

I'm sure everyone in this thread saying the school is in the right would be just fine with their employer drug testing every one of their employees because they found a joint in the parking lot.

I've seen this in The Office. Didn't work out for Dwight.

School in the article was public. And my statement was for a public school.

Private schools clearly explain your limited lack of privacy prior to admission. If you agree to it, you should abide by it.

Thankfully, I have good public schools, so it wouldn't be a consideration for us.

It is. Someone probably has a sweetheart deal with a testing company. Nice little bit of pocket change the lab can charge the school.

People like yourself are what's wrong with today's society, always looking to sue for something. Stop looking for handouts and go earn your money.
