Welcome to my fam. I was in extreme emotional distress and they ignored it. That aunt is dead to me. I hope the OP gets good help.

Therapists can’t diagnose and you may have clinical depression and need medication

therapy can help with coping mechanisms, but if you need medication, don’t be afraid to take it. I’d see a psychiatrist in addition to the therapist, at least for an evaluation

I think he meant quitting social media, not death.

Removing yourself from social media will make you a happier person after the withdraw symptoms pass.

Anyone have experience with their therapist of choice not being on their health plan but they give you the info to file yourself?? Any luck say with BCBSLA covering part of this?

What is it in your opinion that makes this place so bad for someone with depression?

That was a serious question.

This place makes me lol everyday. Having said that, I wouldn’t wish depression on anyone and if this place triggers it or adds to it, let it go.

Do yourself a favor...

Get you some bloodwork with an endocrinologist along with therapy.

Trust me. Good luck awesome guy.

You deserve to be happy.

I suffer with chronic depression and anxiety (great mix), and I see a counselor once or twice a month. I also see a psychologist every three months.

When I started counseling I would go once a week. Then after a year I started tapering off.

I think a combination of medication and counseling helped me out.

One book recommended to me when I first sought help was "Feeling Good" by David D Burns. I would definitely recommend that book to those suffering with depression.

Yep. He’s gonna say that he didn’t mean it like that, but I’m a thread like this, he should have known better. What a dick

The reality is, I don't know what will make me happy. All I know is, far more often than not, I have never been happy, so I will continue to paint on my Smile and keep trying to make others do so genuinely.

It's good that you're getting help. I did the same last March and I wish I would've done it 5 years ago. You may appear normal to 99% of people but they can't see what you're dealing with on the inside. This is why people continue to not take mental illness serious enough. Unless you've experienced it, it's hard to relate to.

Since getting help, I'm more outgoing and social than before. I also got back into hunting/fishing and even joined a gym. It's made such a big difference.

Good luck to you
