Canadian province of Ontario -

In a province where pit bull type dogs are illegal, and owners caught with prohibited dogs can face thousands of dollars in fines, the average civilian can actually, legally, own a tiger.

It seems like basic common sense to me

Still waiting on context. Thousands of pit bulls in this country that go their entire lives without a single aggressive action.

Mortality, Mauling, and Maiming by Vicious Dogs
2011 Pubmed Study
RESULTS: Our Trauma and Emergency Surgery Services treated 228 patients with dog bite injuries; for 82 of those patients, the breed of dog involved was recorded (29 were injured by pit bulls). Compared with attacks by other breeds of dogs, attacks by pit bulls were associated with a higher median Injury Severity Scale score (4 vs. 1; P = 0.002), a higher risk of an admission Glasgow Coma Scale score of 8 or lower (17.2% vs. 0%; P = 0.006), higher median hospital charges ($10,500 vs. $7200; P = 0.003), and a higher risk of death (10.3% vs. 0%; P = 0.041).
CONCLUSIONS: Attacks by pit bulls are associated with higher morbidity rates, higher hospital charges, and a higher risk of death than are attacks by other breeds of dogs. Strict regulation of pit bulls may substantially reduce the US mortality rates related to dog bites

crazy how pit bulls are “raised poorly” at a STAGGERING clip compared to all other breeds
Really makes you think
Shitty rednecks that cant raise dogs like pitbulls?
I mean do you find pitbulls being raised outside of redneck communities?

It's almost like how an animal is raised determines how it acts...
So if gangstas in the hood started raising Shih Tzus poorly we would see a spike in Shih Tzu fatal attacks?

Have you been around those frickers? One of the meanest goddamn breeds on this planet. Their only saving grace is that they're small.
I've punted my mom's dog across the living room multiple times already.
Why? Because my mom raised that little shite to thingk she's a princess.
A pitbull raised by billy bob to think it can eat any human is going to act accordingly.
Again, rearing determines behavior.

I owned one at one time. Dumb as a rock, but I felt very comfortable he, or pack of them, would never kill a girl regardless of how they were raised.

Do you feel the same about a lab or german shepherd?

You want context, like the news stories of a 5 year old getting torn apart by a pit.
Context has been posted here and 1000 other threads about the same issue.

Vets should be required to neuter every pit bull they treat until the breed no longer exists.

No, it hasn't. Zero context about how the dog was raised, and by who.

I don't’ consider that context over human life.
I’d better consider risk assessment.

That's because you respond based on emotion instead of reason.

Maybe, but I do look at the stats just as much. Non fatal bites are very high with pits as well, vs other breeds

Correlation does not always equal causation. Which is why I want context.
Context that no one has yet been able to add to the discussion.

this is flat out not true and perpetuated by a false narrative.
So you own a pit bull, we get it.
Anyone who owns a pit bull will die on the hill of "Pits are no different than any other breed", and it's ridiculous.
Like humans, certain bloodlines and nationalities are inherently prone to certain traits. While nurture can certainly affect those traits, the nature of it still remains to some degree.

That why, when owning a breed and having kids I say risk assessment should be factored in. If you think it’s OK to have a pit and young kids more power to you. That is not a scenario I would entertain.
