Which is bigger than New Orleans if I'm not mistaken.

Jefferson and East Baton Rouge are also bigger than New Orleans.

I wouldn't judge their performance after their fan base was dispersed everywhere.

The MB Superdome is in a great location as it fits just perfect in an urban setting. Those stadiums that are remote totally suck, as the city and team concept dissipates. The only advantage to that is less traffic for the city. Dolphins stadium comes to mind, it's 18 miles north of downtown.

i'm not saying that it's my jam or your complaint about the jorts trash is invalid (i'm a cowboys fan but can laugh about ourselves,) i'm just saying that it's right in the middle of a well developed city larger than New Orleans 13 miles from the airport on a major interstate.

Complain about the culture and suburbs, that's fine. But middle of nowhere is a dumb flex.

it's the middle of nowhere in regards to bars, restaurants, and entertainment. you have to take a 30+ minute uber to get to fort worth or dallas assuming you don't want to stay in arlington.i guess some people do trips for games differently but when i travel for a game, i'm trying to eat at some good restaurants, go to cool bars, stay in a nice hotel, and explore the city a bit. jerry world absolutely blows for that.

in new orleans, you could pregame/dine in uptown or midcity, hop in a car, and be dropped off at the dome in like 10 minutes. the experience just isn't close.

ive been to games in atlanta, detroit, new orleans, chicago, and a bunch of college games, but jerry world was easily the worst. felt like sports disney world.

So you still need to Uber around when you go to a Saints game?

You can do that to a Levi Stadium-like facility in Metarie.

you 1000% don't "need to", but it is an easy and quick option.

i like stadiums in downtown, don't get me wrong, but the only way to get land for that or do new development is to do some shady eminent domain backroom deals by democrat politicians and that's going to be called racist by the democrat voters in the big cities.

This. It's extremely hard to do it correctly in a downtown location.

And yet no one has ever proved that. There are articles out there about how these teams are a bad investment for states, though.

It's easy and quick in areas like Santa Clara, Arlington, Hamburg, Foxborough, Arlington, Arlington Heights, south Philly, Meadowlands, Inglewood, Glendale, Hattsville, Arrowhead Drive, Dale Mabry, and Holly Hall too. It works pretty well in those areas for those NFL franchises - none of them are in the downtown area. And most of them have way better football venues than what we get with the dome.

It's extremely difficult to build an awesome NFL arena in a downtown area. The only way to really do it is to invest in a sketchy part of town that's "downtown adjacent". And that's no longer politically correct these days, and you still don't end up with something ideal for tailgating. The Saints need a venue a little more isolated IMO - they can then capture nearly all the parking fees, retail revenue, etc. on their property where a downtown location would have more leakage to nearby properties.

To really have a chance at doing this right - we'd have to move the Saints to Tiger Stadium for a few years while we tear down the dome and build a retractable roof stadium with enough flexibility to handle things other than football. Something like what Houston or Dallas has would be awesome. But I don't think we have space for that.

it's worked for the braves, rangers, cowboys, jets, redskins, cardinals, patriots, 49ers, giants, etc.

That's because its less about moving urban vs. suburban, and more about moving to where the actual fan base is concentrated. The teams that successfully moved outside of their named city did so because they have large suburban fanbases large enough to support the team locally.
