That place gets serious. Tons of videos online of boats struggling to make it through safely.

Here is a gif of someone killing their friend in Jupiter inlet

If you’re gonna be stupid, you’re gonna have to be tough.

Most Captain's for boats like that make $1,000-2000/ ft in my limited experience, while above was right about them being cheap I'd be surprised if MJ was cheap here. He likely got good advice and help from Viking. The captains do things like move the boats to new ports, take care of maintenance, etc. also. Obviously a guy like Jordan does nothing but texts him when he is arriving, shows up, and then walks on and off the boat. So you don't want some chump drunk that drinks aways his $55,000 salary doing that.

It looks like they maybe have a fishing team on the boat? Multiple guys wearing the same shirt. That's not normal for a boat like that. Could just be buddies of the captain he brought along to help out or something.

ETA, lol

Which may be why MJ didn’t place in the competition.

While a large boat doesn't help if you are talking about the White Marlin Open there wouldn't be a lot of "big" fish caught. Whites are under 90 pounds. Even the winner blues that time of year up north would likely be under 400 and a 200-pound bluefin tuna would be a serious score.

The WMO is probably the largest and highest purse sport fishing tournament of the season so an occasional boat doesn't have much of a chance. I would guess there were well over 300 boats. Most of the winning boats are likely fixtures on the circuit. There is luck in fishing so even a first time boat can hook a million-plus dollar fish but it is rare.
