Judging by how badly the guy being charged is beaten, I'm willing to bet he was all about mouthing off and starting shite, then pulled his gun when he started getting his arse kicked.
If the guy in the mugshot were beaten that badly by someone who attacked him with no provocation and then responded by teaching his attacker restraint at 900 fps, I'd be inclined to call that self-defense. That he's being charged with murder and not a lesser charge tells me a lot.
