Baton Rouge Traffic Loop

When Pete Heine ran for East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President in 1976 against the powerful incumbent Woody Dumas, Heine centered his campaign on a well-thought-out proposal to build a circumferential highway loop.
:At the time, Mayor Dumas openly dismissed and laughed at the proposal. Dumas infamously called the idea ridiculous and unnecessary, claiming that Baton Rouge would never grow large enough to need or benefit from a bypass highway loop.

There are 100% people who will claim no one promised or talked about a loop.
This is not an argument, just simply stating that there are aome that are so committed to their political cult that they will argue that politicians did not run on the platform or negotiate for a loop around BR.
Despite Burbank, Siegan, Sherwood, Florida making a perfect loop like Raiford promised 50 years ago.

I-10 should have never been routed through the heart of Baton Rouge to begin with. Typical Louisiana infrastructure

I’m afraid a loop will be far too costly now. By the time the required studies are done to get Fed money, we’ll need 2 of them.

Yep! It’s not gonna happen. We’ll be lucky to get a new bridge and widening Nicholson down to Gonzales. Hell, we’re lucky they even found the money for the widening of the main line I-10 thru town.

1. BR would have 600K people
2, There would be a population corridor from BR to NO similar to that between NYC and Wash DC
Granted this was a few yrs later and he didn't exactly say a loop was needed (maybe he did -- I don't remember) but his outlook on the situation at least evolved
