OP here- Job will be just south of the I-10/I-12 interchange close to Westminster area.

Tara and old goodwood area are looking pretty for you. Depending on where you buy, the kids could walk to school at mercy

Known for being Baton Rouge's "deed restricted" whites-only neighborhood before that became illegal.

WPP is nice. Sidewalks. Community pool. Community tennis courts. Sheriff patrolled . No HOA. Lots of stuff. You can get on 10 or 12 in less than 5 minutes

Tara.

Tara isn't a bad choice. A lot of the houses were built to be higher end, but are getting old. Many are being extensively renovated.

Minutes from Whole Foods and easy to get to Essen/Jefferson area.

Catholic High and St. Joseph’s are 1000+ a month. Why would you want to live on a battlefield and pay that for school.

No it is not, I love living over here. Just the amount of entry and exit points makes it great to me

He probably doesn't want to spend 2 hours per day commuting which I can understand is a choice some people make.

You need to check the CSAL basketball threads to find the best fit for your son. Personally I ride with St Aloysius

Yes SAS will have a good 8th grade team next year. They didn’t appear to be hit hard by the CHS 8th grade transfer portal. Guard heavy so if your son is a big he can get in their rotation.

How do you have those amenities without an HOA?

I lived in Southdowns in the 1980s, had several neighbors that had lived there since the 1950s, and this is the first time I’ve ever heard this.

The Lakes at Jamestown is real nice. It’s in the lower end of your price range. There are always kids playing outside.

Best to avoid the Alvarez construction neighborhoods. They are about 1/2 step above DR Horton

Anyone have thoughts on Springlake area off of Bluebonnet? Considering for a rental until we can find the right house. Seems to be reasonably priced and appears like a decent neighborhood. Anything I am missing?

Check out Long Farm

Downside is that it is a mass housing community. The houses are high end but there is no trees or anything. I'd look into The Lake at White Oak, Rose Hill, etc.
