Have one that is 14 years old. Been a great dog. Very territorial and protective but fine around kids etc. Does shed, not a lot but not a little either. Will just take off and run and look back at you as its running away just to say frick you. Shock collar corrected this quickly. Mine not as hyper as some say, has bursts of energy but its short lived and lays around more than anything. Loves being pet and is a great lap dog. Does bark but not that often at all. Wouldn't say no to another one but would not go out looking to get another one.

It’s not a recommendation for OP. He really doesn’t need a dog if he can’t handle shedding

then my original suggestion of standard poodle stands.

they dont get enough credit for how awesome a dog they are.

i think most guys dont like the classic aesthetic of them.....so i would reccomend a good groomer and ask for the BAW cut.

Boxers are the only breed I've had since I was 7 years old.
Any dog is a reflection of how it's treated, but I've had great luck with them. They are energetic and need attention. They are great with families and especially children.

If only they didn’t shed!

I've been thinking about getting a dog

Please adopt a dog instead of buying one.
There are so many locked up in cages at the shelters that deserve a better life and need someone just like you to love on them everyday. Rescue dogs are so loyal and you can see the joy in their eyes when they realize they get to come home with you.

Be a hero and give one a chance. You'll see what I'm talking about.

After having 2 Dalmatians, non-shedding has become the #1 quality I look for in a dog. Dalmatians shed like m’fers. While short and slick, some how their hairs manage to burrow into fibers and are terribly difficult to remove.
There is a type of poodle that is bigger than a miniature yet smaller than a standard (those dogs are big, and a giant ball of non-stop energy for the first year or so, not sure how that would go with a first time dog owner). I think they are called Moyen poodles; they are pure bred poodles, not doodles.
Oh and someone mentioned Shih Tzu; one on the easiest, sweetest, funniest little dog I’ve ever had.
A Boston Terrier is a good choice too.

Could the owner get him a coonskin hat instead of the mullet cut??

My neighbors have a couple of miniature schnauzers. They're awesome little dogs, but those 2 love to bark.

Maybe it's just their personalities, but when they're outside, they will back at anything that moves.
