This was a small piano bar/ neighborhood pub. Hardly a nightclub.
And as for the cover debate, I spent too many years without having ever had to pay a cover. I ain't going to change now.

So if a group of your friends all want to go out someplace....and they charge a $5 cover. You are just gonna refuse? Be that one whiny guy in the group "Aww frick no I ain't paying no cover" that everyone wishes would just shut the frick up and pay the damn $5 so everyone could have a good time?

Same thing back when I was in my 20s going out with my BF at the time and his friends. And yet the guy always wondered why he could never get chicks. Dude was so cheap....refused to buy a woman a drink as well if chatting with a girl at a bar.
You know what....I think he also drank only Bud Light as well.

this guy would bring a flask and just pour it in a water from the bar.
bring a girl home, sleep with her, take a $20 out of her purse and give it to her(as his money) for a cab home
our group of friends always wondered why we were friends with him

If I'm with a group, that changes things.
On my own, frick no I'm not paying a cover unless there is a damn good reason.

This would only be redeeming if he was now a millionaire.

I would imagine if youre going out on your own, you wont be going to a bar that charges a cover. You usually just find a barstool and post up and drink and shoot the shite with the tender or watch tv.

I.First off, no where that charges a cover around here would charge just $5.00. That just ain't happening. $15-$30 is more likely.
2. Covers mean cash. I don't carry cash on me ever. It'd end up costing more than the cover.
3. I ain't cheap lol. Frugal, yes, but not cheap. You seem to be confusing common financial sense and an unwillingness to be cheated with being cheap.
4. If I am out with a group, and they decide to go somewhere where I think isn't a good place for me to be at, I will absolutely recuse myself. I am doing no one any favors by being in a negative mood and bringing down the mood of the group. It's appreciated.

I dont think we are talking about concerts here or a huge club with known djs

How do people not carry cash on them?

I don't get this either. I mean, yeah most of us don't carry a lot of cash on us nowadays. But to never carry cash at all? That just isn't very smart. You should always have like $10-20 on you, you never know when you will need it.

I mean, I do t go to concerts or clubs. I also don't go to bars with covers. It's not common at all.
I don't carry cash on me because there's generally no need for it. What do I need to spend cash on?
Maybe I'm a little cheap. But on Monday, I bought a flight and had to go to urgent care this week and buy medicine and all of that left me with almost no spending cash (versus what I have pledged to bills, etc). Letting small issues go can have an impact. And if I want to be responsible for my spendings, I should have access to all information to make adequate decisions.

The bars that charge random drinks to your card if you leave it there are the worst. They charged my brother about $200 at Boudreaux and thibedeaus one night and he only ordered a few drinks

exactly. growing up in nola, i was told by my dad to always have cash on me so when i get robbed, they dont shoot me for having nothing on me

I always make sure I have at least $20 in cash in my wallet. Just leave it there until I need it.
Has come in handy whenever we went to a sporting event or some other event and went to park someplace that only was taking cash. Or if you want to valet your vehicle.

same thing happened to me at Happys downtown.
This was the tab. Long story short, that tip was added by the waitress AFTER she was tipped $40 in cash.

Another reason why I always pay with cash. I get it, using your card is convenient. It's the thieving bartenders and servers that alter tips. I'm not saying all bar and restaurant people are like that, however if you've been burned like that cash is the way to go.
