To your point, I think we are seeing the shift of car owners away from the older generation who was around for the prime of these cars and wrenched on them to a younger generation who doesn’t want to deal with the maintenance and lack off ammenities.
85% of cars going on the block and bringing $$$ are ‘62-‘69.
Boomers still in control of this.

I don't have kids and I couldn't afford any of these. Well maybe I could buy it, but i would be afraid to drive it on public roads.

Honestly, who has this much money, and what do they do with these cars? Do they just remain show cars or do some get driven daily?
A lot of the cars really aren't that expensive outside the corvettes and supercars. Many of the classic cars earlier in the week were going from $20-35 grand. Considering that with proper care, that car will literally last longer than you will, it's really not an unpractical choice for someone with a short commute and indoor parking (garage/carport).
Most people get them as weekender cars. Others are retired and just want some wish fulfillment.

Nothing is practical about using these cars to go to work.

I agree that earlier in the week deals were there to be had but pretty much every car today and yesterday afternoon/night are going for 6 figures.

It's mixed bag, some are investors/collectors, some are businessmen, some is old money.
My father has purchased and sold several cars at BJ, his client has moved around 9 cars (purchased/sold).
My father purchased a 1958 Impala survivor at BJ several years ago, 11,248 original miles. GM learned of the car and asked him to use the car to display.

Thanks, it was solid, I have never driven a classic car that was so "tight". Closing the door was akin to closing a new S-class door with the familiar "thud". I think he put 350 miles total in 5years of ownership, taking it to a few shows and getting it certified as a survivor. He purchased it as an investment and did well when he sold it last year.

These custom C1/C2s are going for stupid money, especially considering it's a "catalog build". $400K

Great story, thanks for sharing.
So, I guess being all original isn't "in" now. It seems all of these corvettes have modern drive trains in them.

Depends on the intent on the purchase. If it's for investment purposes they will go after the numbers matching rare/ low production car. If it will be purchased to be driven regularly it will be a restomod.
Automobiles are very cyclical, a bubble will form and eventually burst. For a while it was the baby Birds ('55-57 T-Birds), C1/C2 corvettes, then Mopars...now it's air cooled Porsches and 23-window VW Buses. The market can not sustain and they all eventually burst.

I think as the baby boomers move on the younger generation will stray away from all original carburetor cars. They will still have a following but it will be similar to they guys with original Model A's. The younger generation are more familiar with newer technology and original parts will be more difficult to find.

Off topic. The lady doing the period costume Red dress with white pokadots. for the last two 1950s cars for sale. She stands and waves as long as the car is on the platform - She has unshaved underarms. Strange I guess it is maybe period correct for ladies in the 1950s
