Let's have a NIMBY off: Liberals who don't want a barge cleaning facility in BR in one corner, Conservatives who don't want an interstate loop to pass within 1 mile of their house in the other...ok, let's have a clean fight... GO!!

I'm surprised this hasn't been a bigger issue on here.

Why don't you sit in the old Alex Box parking lot one afternoon and watch how many railcars and tractor trailers full of chemicals pass by. THEN you will have something to worry about.

This was much ado about nothing. Nothing.

He's my friend IRL and I'm very unhappy with this ruling. It's hard to argue with the facts that were presented regarding more dangerous facilities in black areas of town(and around the country). Mary Olive Pearson's crawfishing bullshite attempt to save face by offereing to represent black communities for free is a joke. "they'll have me" is what she said the NEXT time some company tries to move into their communities. This is some bullshite stirred up by Riverbend.

That douchebag drama queen is the front runner to be our next mayor. That's way more frightening than someone building a barge cleaning facility next to you.

What was fricked up is that the City Council tried to, no wait - scratch that - DID, make this a racial issue. Their exact statements were chastising white home owners who came to speak against this facility NEAR THEIR HOMES for not speaking out against facilities in North Baton Rouge. Think about that for a second, I am a racist because I am most concerned about things that directly affect me? frick you Denise Marcelle. Serious? Well then your constituents are a bunch of racists for not coming to protest this facility being built in a white area. You know why shite gets built in the hood? Because your lazy arse constituents don't give a frick to go speak against it. Hell, even one dude that could make complete sentences shows up and says "building that here would be racist" and the council people would be falling all over themselves to vote against it. I am so goddamn sick and tired of the race card. Basically, besides paying for these folks food, clothing and housing, it is now also the my job to make sure corporations don't take advantage of their laziness and don't give a frick attitude.

And before anyone says it, I am not racist. I am against lazy do nothing's who take hand outs, smoke crack and sit on the porch all day. Whatever race, creed or religion they may be. And I am most definitely against anyone who calls me names or shames me for trying to do good for mine and what I have worked my arse off for in life.

Whew! That feels better.

That blew up on Christmas Eve one time 1989 I believe. I was raking leaves near Siegen Lane and it shook the ground. We obviously went to go see it.

But that refinery was there when that part of town wasn't developed yet.
Other examples in the latter part of 20th century are very hard to ignore.

Sadly You're wrong, according to the article in the Advocate the other day. Most of them are tenants, not homeowners. They have no voice. The owners of those houses they rent live far away, sometimes in other states. They don't give a frick what's built next to their property as long as they get that rent check.

Toxic gas!

You've learned your chicken little buzzwords well.

You realize that CO2 is a "toxic gas"?

If people only knew what moves up and down that river on a daily basis, only miles from residential neighborhoods. It would literally blow their minds.

In this day in age, with all the law suites, safety is top priority on the river, offshore, inland, plants, facilities such as this.
