Capt. Scott Lee, of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, said an initial accident involving an 18-wheeler and passenger cars started the chain of events. A sheriff's deputy in the area stopped to render aid when a second accident involving a tanker-type truck and multiple vehicles occurred.

I can't even tell what the hell I'm looking at in those pictures. I can't imagine witnessing that

Dangerous area
Traffic tends to stall there creating potential accidents like this.
Sure wish there was a way to get 18-wheelers a dedicated lane that they can't get out of.
(I realize it's not all Semi Drivers fault but it's not a good recipe)

You aren't funny. But you are really tacky.

To me the issue is the merge lane coming from Pinnacle Parkway. It is short in length and runs out on the bridge crossing the river. Close that entrance and I would imagine the traffic would flow much better.

shite. Saying some prayers because that's all I can do. That's heartbreaking.

I agree, but this happened on the overpass over 21 not the river. This is before the merge lane

Horrible timing and use of that meme. Some families lives are changed forever right now.

True. However, traffic backs up way past that overpass, and the merge lane from Pinnacle is why imho. Just my .02. This is a terrible accident.

Horrible. I can't stand to be in traffic running so close to each other. So many people just a car link or two behind each other is a disaster waiting to happen.

Holy shite that’s some final destination stuff there. That’s literally as scary as hell.

The scariest part is no matter how careful you may be there is always the chance you and your whole family can be obliterated in an instance in a situation like this. This is truly a nightmare and I feel for the families of the victims .

That just looks so bad. I feel terrible for everyone.
Still curious as to what all really started it, and was the fire just the result of spilled fuel igniting or was there something flammable in those trailers.

Drove through there at about 3:30 and traffic went from 75 to a stop without any kind if warning, we almost got plowed by the car behind us.
Drove back through, westbound, about 6:20, most of the cars involved in the wreck you couldn't even tell what kind of vehicle they were. It was a bad, bad scene.

Is the accident East or West bound?

Im assuming the deputy somehow escaped this because the fire department said no first responders were injured.
