Part of the problem is that people have their standards set too high.
Most people will reject someone who is on a level comparable to them in favor of chasing people several levels above them.

That's ok.
I'm not so insecure that I can't go, as a grown adult, to see a movie by myself.
I just did that Wednesday. Wanted to go see Downton Abbey movie. Knew no way in hell does my husband want to see it(and he's out of town anyways). Didn't want to wait until a friend could go with me. It was awesome. Sat in my comfy reclining seat, ordered food and alcohol from my seat, and kicked back and enjoyed the movie.

I don't go to many movies, but I have zero problem going alone. Same with going out for a meal or drinks. Sometimes it's nice to get out but not have to socialize.
