his has to be a Southern thing. I asked my co-workers here in the midwest what they thought of the name. Of the roughly 20 workers, half of them liked the name, a fourth were OK with it, and a fourth didn't care for it. As a general rule, we are a lot more progressive and don't live in the past, which is why I said you need to get out more. I have noticed how much different the names are in the south, north, west, east, etc.
I'm sure some names which southerners like would be considered old fashioned in other parts of the country.

If I hear the name, Brynlee, I would probably first think of a trailer park in Alabama, though, and not really the Midwest.

I just don't even know where it comes from. Like, is it a variation of something else?

This is easy, your child's name should be the most amazing name of all time:

James Dr No From Russia with Love Goldfinger Thunderball You Only Live Twice On Her Majesty's Secret Service Diamonds Are Forever Live and Let Die The Man with the Golden Gun The Spy Who Loved Me Moonraker For Your Eyes Only Octopussy A View to a Kill The Living Daylights Licence to Kill Golden Eye Tomorrow Never Dies The World Is Not Enough Die Another Day Casino Royale Bond

if that's not good enough:

Brfxxccxxmnpcccclllmmnprxvclmnckssqlbb11116

comes in a close second

My cousin and his wife named their daughter Braelynn(I am sure I spelled that wrong). They are white trash.

Stick to something simple, and something the kid will not have to repeat or spell after they introduce themselves.

The name game!
Shirley!
Shirley, Shirley bo Birley Bonana fanna fo Firley
Fee fy mo Mirley, Shirley!
Lincoln!
Lincoln, Lincoln bo Bincoln Bonana fanna fo Fincoln
Fee fy mo Mincoln, Lincoln!
Come on everybody!
I say now let's play a game
I betcha I can make a rhyme out of anybody's name
The first letter of the name, I treat it like it wasn't there
But a B or an F or an M will appear
And then I say bo add a B then I say the name and Bonana fanna and a
fo
And then I say the name again with an F very plain
and a fee fy and a mo
And then I say the name again with an M this time
and there isn't any name that I can't rhyme

Just curious, what's the OT's opinion on names like oh, Baylen, Bowen, and Callen?

I just wanted to avoid something on the top 10 list, and of course avoid anything that rhymes with Aiden. And I like names that aren't androgynous, and they should have a mostly agreed-upon pronunciation and spelling. We named our daughter Lillian and our son Zachary. Middle-of-the-road not super popular but not also not a look-how-cool-I-am-for-naming-my-kid-this-fricking-ridiculous-name.

Dude I'm sorry you named your child the top white trash name this year.

Maybe you can save up and give her a legal name change for her birthday one year. Preferably before she turns 16 and starts dancing on the pole.

Ruth does sound like an old woman's name.

My GM's name was Ruth. When my daughter was born, we wanted to name her after my GM, but weren't excited about Ruth. My GM was from Sheridan, Ar, so we went the Sheridan. Of course, she goes by her middle name, so we probably could have just settled on Ruth.

I like Ruth actually. Solid name.

Much better and classier than Brynlee.

At least you can say Ruth came from the Bible....Brynlee came from some meth lab in Mobile.

Not knocking you for this, but I never got people who would name their child James Bradley Stevens, but right off the bat call them Brad. My friend is in that same situation, and he said it always annoyed him to have to go through that with his new teacher every year.

ETA A friend of a friend is called Ruthie (assuming a nickname), so I guess the only hope for it is to jazz it up

My last name is one of 2 most common names in America. I wasn't naming him john or Mike. He has a short name that doesn't sound like a preppy and has some cool/strong meanings. I think he will like it as he is older. Eta:it us popular in big Hawaii and the Scandinavian countries. also I really really hate the southern preppy sounding names and trailer park/country sounding names.

You really want Drew Brees to kill himself?

FWIW, I'm not crazy about any of those three names he chose, but he can have a pass.
