I have a friend on Facebook from high school whom I haven't deleted because her posts are just ridiculous that it's funny. She literally posts every aspect of her life on there. She takes every quiz known to man, posts all the time about her "hubby" and now that she is pregnant...oh man.

She takes weekly mirror selfies to show progress, and she and her "hubby" just came out with a set of new couple pictures...my favorite is the one of her belly with them making a heart with their hands.

It's hilarious.

Yeah this place is the Mecca of Internet bad asses.

Honesty, I think it's a little silly but if my wife wanted to do one I'd do it, as long as we can make it like a family gathering or a potluck like one of the posters above did.

And even if she didn't want to do that...well, I would probably still do it

I told my wife if she wanted to do this, I'd be playing golf. Period. My brother and sister-in-law are pregnant, and if my SIL does one, I'll be doing the same. Its attention whoring at its finest.

Yeah you may have actually told her that, but talk is cheap. You'd be there pouting like a 3 year old.

My sister just had a kid and they didn't find out until it was born, so luckily there was not precedent for my wife to feel like it was okay to have one of these parties . She still found a way to tell her parents and the people at work, but there was no party.

And as far as the fancy engagement parties, everyone's got at least one well off relative or family friend. The party is for you, but it's also about them showing off their house and party throwing skills. We had more people wanting to throw us a party than I expected.

Nurse. Be a girl for once. Do a gender party.

Sadly having slept on this...if my wife is hot I'd probably let her do what she wanted. I just wouldn't tell lots of people.

I must live in a bubble then because I was sincerely happy for my friends and went because I care about them. And I had a blast hanging out with friends and family.

This is more than likely how everyone feels IRL, but there's no place for that on the OT

I didn't even have a bridal shower CR.

I might allow a baby shower (only because I get free stuff but it won't be lame like most baby showers are) but helllllllll no to some stupid arse gender reveal party.

exactly

We didn't throw any of our "parties" when my wife was pregnant. We had people begging to throw us a shower or a reveal party.

But yeah, we are just attention whores.

You aren't supposed to throw your own baby shower. That's just tacky as can be.

My closest friends and family mostly all live in LA so unless I actually fly there when pregnant...I don't see having much of a baby shower out here.

I'll rephrase....Everyone's got one relative or family friend who's doing better than everyone else they know . It's all relative to what you think is fancy. One side of my family is impressed by caterers, servers, and personlized little gifts for the guests. While the other is just impressed by a party where everyone kept their shirt on

so that's the real reason why you didn't have a wedding shower

not because you are so above it, but because no one was close to enough to throw you one

This sounds about right, although Nurse was an older bride (no offense of course), and usually the older couples seem less into the showers.
