If you're doing your own demo job or even having someone do it for you make sure all wood is treated with Bora-care

. It penetrates the wood and crystallizes preventing mold and any type of termite, carpenter ant, etc. from getting to it. One jug should go a long way since it's concentrate.

Just wanted to pass this info along for anyone tearing out sheetrock.

Bora-Care® with Mold-Care 1 Gallon 608794
Price: $109.62

This is what I bought for my relatives:
Concrobium 1 gal. Mold Control Jug
$31.98

•EPA-registered to eliminate and prevent mold
•Penetrates to the roots of mold
•No bleach or harmful fumes

Covers 400 sq ft if sprayed. 1400 sq ft if fogged.

It is in the paint dept, not the household cleaners dept at Home Depot.

The mixture in post 18 will kill the heads (flower) part of the mold, but the roots will remain and ultimately re-flower. Bleach doesn't even kill the head, but just changes it's color. Ice blasting also, only removes the head. Removal of the component is the only sure fire way. However, if removal can't be done, the only chemical that penetrates into the substrate is BoraCare with MoldCare. The difference is that BoraCare actually gets drawn into the substrate helping to kill the roots. In a pinch, I've used antifreeze that contains ethylene glycol. WARNING. Animals and children love the taste of antifreeze, because it is sweet. Ethylene glycol kills everything, so major precautions.

Do you realize that you linked to a blog started in January 2008? Your particular post was done in November 2011.

I found this: "BORACARE is also sold alone, without the Mold-Care additive".

This means mold remediation is not that products main function. It is just an add-on feature.

The product in my link is currently registered with the EPA to eliminate and prevent mold. Unless Home Depot is lying.

It's only function is for mold remediation.

And it is available locally immediately.
