But what the hell are you going to do with your kids if you are a parent who actually has to work 5 days per week?

My daughter's school would start a day camp and charge us $40 per Monday

The teachers and her get another day off per week and I'd get an extra $160 per month bill

Yeah but they will be damn near dead by the time Friday comes.

This is a bad idea all around.

No, they don’t “have” to. Raise your own dam kids

Just wait. The SJWs will have them in court over this.

Think it was Iberville that did this for a while. Don't think there was any lawsuits over it.

and the teachers will want a raise because they have to work additional hours each day

(NB4 "but they will only work four days" Doesn't matter, teachers will still scream for a raise)

Go to school tues through Friday and have Monday off....no

Best scenario is to have Wednesday off as a break between the 2 longer school days, and have time to complete homework and assignments

Colorado adopted the 4 day school week to save money and they seem to be doing okay up there.

It’s not about the time a kid is in school but the quality of education. Maybe LA needs to change something to boost those scores.

It's because they are opening another charter school, further straining the public schools in the parish.

The driving reason was the idea that a 5 day work week for teachers with only 4 days of students would allow for less take home work for teachers. This would then attract better teachers.

The teachers will still work 5 days. Now they just have a day with no one in their classroom. The idea is that they’d be able to get the stuff done they usually bring home and do on the weekends on the kids days off.

It won’t be ideal for all parents but the other option was to start closing schoos due to lack of funding. A lot of the parents bitching about this are the same ones that voted against a tax a few years ago that would put more money into the schools. It’s an experiment to save money. If it doesn’t work they go back to 5 days a week and a few schools will close. Works great for my family since my wife teaches and she brings the kids to school.

I would argue that having shorter classes and going to school longer in the year would be more beneficial to the students than one less day per week but with longer school days.

It helps attendance as doctors appointments, orthodontist, etc can be scheduled the off day as well. That’s a big plus of it.

Are you sure? If they add an hour to 4 days they’ll have to abbreviate something on the 5th.

That’s the way it was explained in the past when it was first brought up. Now it may have changed once they brought it to a vote, but to my knowledge that was the way it was initially proposed.

To a degree, maybe, but I would think most teachers want to teach in or close to the community they live in.
