Walk outside with a big cup fill of water from the cold sink and pour it on your windshield and/or got start your car and let it run for a few mins with the defroster on high before you get in and leave.

That’s all you’ll need.

If you're like me, when your windshield wiper fluid runs low, you simply top it off with water. Maybe even use some store-bought stuff.

But unless it is rated as a de-icer, you may be in for some unpleasantness. I recommend any cars kept out of a garage be run to empty and refilled with the deicer, running it all through the hoses.

I buy a new car before the fluid runs out (I wish I was kidding).

To be fair, it’s 3 extremely cold days, the middle one involving unprecedented snow and ice, and most folks aren’t used to that.

Antifreeze is probably less concerning than the windshield

Antifreeze

And your wiper reservoir concern is stupid. It is not a pressurized system. It can freeze and unfreeze with no issues. In fact your reservoir cap allows air in so if the ice were to expand in the reservoir you wouldn't have issues. But if you are so worried about it then just take the reservoir cap off and the ice an expand all the way out of the reservoir.

Last year or the year before, the water in my windshield washer spray nozzle froze and broke, so yeah.

Wait a minute there, Sparky. A few years ago we had 3 whole days of cold weather!

I don't take automotive advice from anyone that can't be trusted to pump their own gas...I've been to NJ and had my rights read to me for the sin of touching the gas nozzle at the pump.

your need to poke fun at homeowners for freeze prep is because you don’t own a home and/or have a family who depends on you living in one. As a young bachelor i didn’t get it either, then i did.

The reservoir won't bust. But if he is worried about it busting then he can take the cap off of the washer reservoir. It allows a place for potential ice to expand. Ice expanding is what causes things to bust or crack. An open cap will allow a place for that ice to go. However, the reservoir cap already allows air in so its not needed (like I mentioned) in the temps we will have.

You can also add rubbing alcohol to your washer reservoir if you are that worried about it. It will lower the freezing temp.

The slow panic here is something to see.

It really is, and it’s obviously not just here. Between two grocery stores and two DG’s, not a loaf of bread to be found. Saw a guy filling five 5 gallon cans with gas. Single moms on Facebook seemingly in fear for their lives.

I’m poking fun at people who are acting like they’re prepping for the Younger Dryus. I put covers on my faucets when it got cold like a normal person

Add some rubbing alcohol to the washer fluid if its the summer version to help it from freezing and cracking the tank possibly

2 winters ago we were in Indiana when it was -10 with a windchill of -35 the entire day.

Our car worked with zero issue.

The amount y’all are getting worked up and preparing over this is insane. It’s going to be cold for like a day and a half and then it will be spring temps this weekend.

Get some bourbon and chill out for a day or two.
