I feel terrible for the kid and his parents and family.
Being an alumnus of a LSU frat from the late '70s, I don't get this extreme drinking hazing. It was not really like this wen I was there. Yeah, we did some serious drinking, but nothing that I would have thought was life threatening.
I don't remember extreme drinking being part of our hazing of pledges. The worst thing that I faced when I was a pledge, is I was blindfolded, put into a car and driven a pretty good distance. I was kicked out the car on a dirt road next to a cane field at 3 AM, with only the clothes on my back, no wallet, no money, and in those days cell phones didn't exist. Yeah, I had been drinking, but not so drunk that I didn't know what was going on. And I really feel that if I had been passed out drunk, I would never have been kicked out the car, the actives who were with me had more sense than that, whether they were drunk or not.

Is that the old AGR house, baw?

The brown one with the courtyard in the middle? If so, I lived in that house after my frat was set on fire.

At some point, one needs to ask if the entire premise of the Greek system needs to be eradicated. Times have changed.
No. One does not.
The only thing that has changed with the times are people like you who want to assert their perceived moral righteousness on others having a platform to spew your judgmental holier-than-thou bullshite.

Exactly.
It's amazing seeing all of these commuter students who spent their college years hitting on girls in the Union Bowling Alley bash Greek Life. It boils down to jealousy, which they would never admit.
It's easy to stay out of trouble when you live at home and only see other LSU students during class.

The insecurity from some of the Greeks on here is a bit over the top. No wonder the Greek life suited you so well.

I don't know about eradicating the entire Greek system, but at the very least this one needs to be banned forever from operating at LSU and the house leveled.

Won't matter. Frats have a stigma associated with them for the same reasons Country Clubs are thought to be stuck up snobs.
Maybe if everybody, especially the subset of hypocritical snowflake liberals that get offended about everything, didn't make sweeping generalizations and judge everybody on a person by person basis like they (rightfully) ask everyone to do based on things like race (even though they sometimes don't communicate that all that well), everybody would be a lot better off. There are plenty of both good and bad, smart and stupid people in Greek life... and country clubs... all of which should be judged individually.
Fwiw I'm an independent politically
