Guess I'm an idiot then...

We use ours 2 full weeks per year & take a 3-4 night trip another 2 times per year.

375 maintenance fee every other year

Let friends use it occassionally and that covers fee.

We love it

you need to tell Lance to fax the contract to your Dad who is a lawyer and will not authorize any funds until he reviews the contract. let Lance know he doesn't like bullshite so you better fax it soon. 5 minutes after he tries to fax it to a bullshite number you tell Lance your lawyer said if you can't fax a fricking contract Lance ain't worth spending your money on. Then tell Lance you want your free shite and Lance better be quick about it.

On the way out you say "frick you Lance you no faxing somebitch!"

Enjoy your free stuff

For every 10 couples who sign up for the timeshare presentation, at least two will sign on the dotted line because they can't resist it once you utter the magic phrases like get in on the ground floor, or smart investment, or make your friends jealous with your vacation palace. Think about it. Most people who would agree to waste an hour to receive a prize aren't going to be very shrewd to begin with.

You start out working on the wife and appeal to her need to appear prosperous. If you win her over, it's money in the bank because 99? of the time the husband will follow. If he doesn't, you start making jokes about how you and the wife ought to leave the husband behind and go on in it together. If you can't win over the wife and the husband has thrown up a wall, you make the desperation move of bringing in Candi the former stripper to work her magic.

I just want to know how they convince stupid people to buy these things, and how can I do the same

- Get people thinking about a vacation lifestyle (since they are already on vacation this can be an easy mindset to create)

- Sell the sizzle. Properties worldwide. High end, mid range, etc. Condo or suite setup for more space, kitchen for flexibility. Pay $x/yr and travel wherever you want

- Create memories. With spouse. With children. With friends. Memories last forever

- Convince them the numbers make sense. Cost of hotel is now $100-$500/nt. Goes up every year. Lock in a fixed price (timeshare payments + maintenance fees; eventually pay off loan and you only have maintenance fees)

- Create false time constraint, force a decision now.

- Sweeten the pot with spiffs/incentives.

- Drop the price.

- Wear them out until they sign.

It obviously takes a certain type to be open to being sold. Maybe 20%. And it takes a great salesman, personable, attractive, not afraid to drop their balls on the table and close. Maybe 20% of the salespeople.

Considering you can buy most timeshares or points on the secondary market for pennies on the dollar it is stupid for anyone to buy one at a sales pitch.

Source: Used to date a girl, and had half a dozen friends, who all worked for a company out of their Las Vegas, Sedona, and Scottsale locations. Some of them were paycheck to paycheck, some of them were netting $20k-$50k/mo.

I know a guy who has a disney timeshare. I forgot how much it cost a year, but he gets to go there 4 times a year... They can go anytime they want... IF someone else didn't already reserve those days. His wife is the "keep up with the Jones'" type.. And when everyone with kids the same age as theirs, started making the Disney world trip, they to do what they always do.. One up everyone.. They got a timeshare. Someone told me that he told them something like "I think buying the Disney timeshare was a terrible investment. We haven't gone more than twice a year. The kids don't enjoy it like they did the first few times. I feel like I am just wasting money".

Well no shite! Who would want to go to Disney world 4 times a year?

Went to one in Disney when the wife and I were young. Just had to sit through 2 hr seminar but we got a few nights free stay. No sales pressure, surprisingly. Think it was a Disney company.

In 1995, when I was in my early 20s and freshly married with very little income, I went to one in Orlando. I lied to them about my income because I wanted to sit through their talk for the free breakfast and free tickets to medieval times. There was no way I could afford that then and looking at the price now it was dirt cheap. I was so broke at the time, the free breakfast alone was worth the hour and half we were there.

They have timeshares at the ski resorts in Colorado that seem to be doubling in price every year. I had friends that would go once a year for the free weekend and sit through the talk. But why pay for the timeshare when you can get the weekend for dirt cheap just for the sales pitch.
