significantly?

no - the cities are comparable, but Bham does not have it spilling onto the interstate and 911 works here

Maybe per capita in the worst parts of town.

What’s happening in Buckhead would never happen in Mountain Brook.

You would have been better off taking I-285 and not venturing inside the perimeter
not at the time of day I went through - would have taken another 30 minutes to an hour - I go to NC on a regular basis (my parents retired there) - sometimes it’s better to just go through Chattanooga, adds 40 or so miles, but is a better trip for time depending on time of day and much better for scenery always (we take 64 and drive by the Ocoee River)

Mtn Brook - goats on the loose, hilarity ensues.

Buckhead - another shooting at the Lennox Mall.

birmingham is closer to new orleans than atlanta

quote:

That means Birmingham in 2022 had a per capita homicide rate of 72.9 slayings per 100,000 people. The city had a per capita homicide rate of approximately 57 slayings per 100,000 people in 1933.

The murder rate in Atlanta is 19.53 per 100,000.

Yea, I bet out of the 7million people in Metro Atlanta, YOU and only YOU was the ONLY person who called 911 reporting a non emergency/life threatening wreck. I find it very hard to believe that you called 911 and let the phone ring and ring and ring for 7 minutes without anyone picking up.

What happened was that you called 911 and reported a non life threatening event so then they put you on hold because your event wasn't a high priority. That's what happened.

I drive all over Atlanta every single day and never seen anything like you just fabricated about in your post.

Are there homeless people in Atlanta? Sure, BUT

LINK

quote:

According to Home Bay, the 10 metros with the lowest homeless rates per 100,000 residents are:

Atlanta (32.8)
Pittsburgh (37.4)
Chicago (40.7)
Houston (43.3)
Cincinnati (47.8)
Detroit (51)
Richmond (52.6)
Milwaukee (53.1)
Charlotte (65.2)
Buffalo (73.6)

Atlanta is really close to being the next L.A. or Seattle

Not even close. Go back to your little po dump Alabama or Mississippi town or whatever you are comfortable with. It's clear that big boy cities are not your forte'

no we don’t, but 911 not answering calls at the Buckhead center is pretty bad

To add context - this was around noon on Saturday that I could not get 911 on the line

Maybe I got directed to another tower, but even then, it would have been Midtown (another affluent area)

Do you not think that is noteworthy?

Panhandling has been an issue in Atlanta for as long as I can remember (I am 54 - had issues going downtown as a high school student on field trips) - but spilling onto the interstate?

To me, both of those are pretty big deals

What was surprising was the fact that at least a dozen homeless beggars were standing on the damned access ramp panhandling, a ramp on a federal interstate highway - we could also see their tents in the grass over the 2’ barriers that separate city streets and embankments from the ramp…

Get out of the sticks and visit the big city more often…hillbilly

Every town more than 20,000 is a shithole. Google their mayor before you go.

the line was picked up immediately, and I was placed on hold for 7 minutes

Nope - and an abandoned vehicle encumbering an exit ramp IS 911 worthy - I’m not surprised you disagree based on your post history…

Buckhead to CNN HQ downtown is 5.8 miles.

Mountain Brook to Regions Bank HQ downtown is 4.4 miles.

So an entire city is a shithole because you had a bad experience at one intersection?

This is a fantastic point.

YES. People who aren't used to Atlanta that have to drive through it don't like it because it is a little too much for them to handle because they are only used to their one stop traffic light in their "small town" - When this happens, they claim that Atlanta is a shithole/5th world war zone cesspool.

Atlanta has the lowest homeless population of every major city in the country but according to people on here, homeless people are on every street corner, at every intersection, hanging off every street light.

Oh hell no - MB police are not afraid to crack skulls…

as far as the actual city, I have been pleasantly surprised w Mayor Woodfin - he has done a lot to make Birmingham better and more pleasant for families and businesses

The violence is absolutely a problem, but it is contained and does not spill out into most citizens every day life - Atlanta is in really bad shape and city leaders don’t seem to care

Brother, I’m actually a big fan of ATL, but suburbanites from around the SE having legitimate critiques of ATL can’t all be categorized as little Mayberry hayseeds.

Atlanta is a shithole for many reasons, but 911 not answering in the affluent area of town was what prompted this thread - the beggars on the interstate happened on the same trip, so I included it
