So you’re asking how long until you started contributing to your 401k until your company no longer increased their matching amount then right?

If that’s the case and anyone’s answer isn’t the day I signed with a company that matches, they are not making sound financial decisions.

You’re so full of shite. You didn’t even say or know anything about backdooring an IRA until someone called you out for being a poor.

I had my 401k in college b/c the company I worked part time for provided it after your first year. Kept it going since then, roughly 15 years now.

Didn’t you say in another thread that you passed on college to get a two year degree so you could start making money sooner?

And in a thread different than that one I said I had a masters degree.

I am sure you will really enjoy ski trips with a replaced hip when you are 70 and sitting on the beach with melanoma when you are 75. I am with you as far as saving and wondering how everyone else lives the Facebook life, but it’s their life, so no need to knock it.

I prefer to find a nice balance between the two. I'm maxing out my Roth IRA, but well below the max for 401k. Gotta have a little fun while you're young...

I made 176k before taxes at 24. I spent 315 days on an oil rig that year. Worst year of my life

60 days after I started working there so 24 I think. Maybe 23, depending on the exact day I started.

I have more saved than the average boomer. Sad!

I always thought thar I was behind in retirement savings and thought I could do better (especially in my mid 40s)., I then read a few magazine articles and realized that I was WAY ahead of the average person my age.

I didn't start contributing the max until I was in my mid 40s - although I also have a regular pension plan that put me way over the maximum on a cash out basis. Now, I've been contributing the max including increasing my contribution by the $6k make-up contribution ths year when I turn 50.

HERE'S a really sobering article on retirement savings by age - although it makes me feel MUCH, MUCH better about my savings.

I still don't. I started investing it all in bitcoin about a year and a half ago and haven't looked back since.
