05 Chevy needs gauge cluster work.
I have no idea about the parts availability and turnaround for the warranty work on the F150

The very large main vacuum line to the power brake booster more than likely came off

So, making jokes about people's lives getting ruined by catastrophic floods is the thing to do now.

they said the "new" one they put in was "bad"
could driving on the faulty one for a short distance have any long term effect?

So, is the Mississippi weed really that bad? I mean you being a mechanic and all.....

Posted on 3/10/17 at 9:09 pm to GynoSandberg
Absolutely. If they changed out the master cylinder then they did not change out the power brake booster in which the vacuum hose is attached

Now days, sometimes it takes 2 techs to test drive the newer vehicles to do analysis. 1 to actually drive and the other to monitor the readings using laptops connected to OBDM.

I have a tundra at 82k and no transmission flush
Will this thing run until the apocalypse?

You can get a cluster exchange for around $200 and the company can program the odometer reading and engine hours before shipping the unit out.

My 2010 f150 4x4 5.4 sputters when I get on the gas at around 20 mph. Sometimes when on the interstates around 70 mph it'll start shuddering, sometimes check engine light will flash. If I'm at a dead stop and lay on the gas hard it'll shudder bad and then take off and shift hard. Is it engine or tranny? I've heard 50/50 response
I'd bet $1 that your spark plugs. It happened to me and a family friend who is a mechanic at a Ford dealer immediately recognized the symptoms and called it. Replacing the plugs worked like a champ.

Do a drain and fill and filter change before 100,000 miles and you will be ok.

There is a huge difference between a code reader and an actual scanner. My Snap on scanner costs $6500.
You still never answered my question. Why should I have to pay for you to use a tool that you need to do your job? That car lift in the garage certainly costs a lot of money but I don't get a "lift charge" to change my tires or oil.
Also, it would be nice if you explain the mystery and rocket science behind a $6k scanner? I don't understand how I can use a $50-$100 scanner, look up the code, and look at my car and come to the same conclusion.

2005 chevy Silverado oil pressur gauge stays pegged out. I am guessing the oil pressure sending unit is bad. how difficult is that to change?

Because I offer a service along with a device. How many other professions do you know of that do not charge for either or both?

I have a slow leak (5psi/wk) in one of my tires. Three different shops have found no issues, yet it persists. Why?

The same reason people with degrees demand higher pay than those without a degree?

Limited capabilities perhaps? Does the $100 scanner provide voltage readings? What I mean is, if you get a code for an oxygen sensor failure, does the $100 scanner give you the actual readings of things like air, fuel mixture or voltage readings at each pin in the connector? Does the scanner provide additional checks?

You're not paying just for the tool. You're paying the mechanic for his expertise and time in diagnosing the problem.
When there's shite all over your bathroom, do you expect the plumber to come over and tell you why for free?
When you go to work every day, do you just not charge your employer for the first half hour of every task? Do you think the mechanic should just give you that diagnostic time for free?

simple....because the only money that comes into any business is from the customer. Who else would you like to pay for it?
