Not really. I’ve pretty much always found them irritating.

It’s easier not to have friends.

Yes until she hauls her tits out when she gets drunk and then it’s all good.

The dog fricking gets it. If I'm chilling on my walk then so is she. If I have Tourette's because I've had a rough day then she is down for the cause, all business. Almost all men like their dog more than most other people, dogs are awesome.

When we all were single, you could blow off peacocking/bravado as your buddy trying to get laid. Now that everyone has been married for 10+ years, everyone has at least one tween, you have to have learned the audience for people that have known you for more than 20 years.
There's a time to turn it off, and they have to be aware enough to know that, or they get back benched. Every sycophant on your jock cares about your watch/gun/golf cart collection, but when I've known you for almost 30 years, don't treat me like the influencer/entrepreneur you met a month ago.
Overall, the complete inability of men/couples to commit to anything before they weigh their options blows my giving a shite out of the water. Broken promises, obfuscation, deliberate lying/delaying (female behavior out of dudes I've known for decades,) etc.
As I've gotten older, my tolerance for horseshite (already low,) has decreased to near zero. Anyone with kids that haven't left the house, and are still married, I pretty much write off in terms of reliability, so me no care.

Yes, but it's a happy irritation. If I hung out with people just like me it would be boring as hell.

No, I appreciate them more.

I'm 71 and between the ones that have died off, moved away and lost contact, got involved with loads of grandkids, etc. I have fewer and fewer "friends" as the years pass.
The ones I still keep in touch with are good to hear from and I'm OK if it's only a few times a year.
I have more casual acquaintances now than close friends, and that's fine by me.

Subtle I have friends brag. I’m not very good at keeping in touch, so nobody really to irritate me other than my wife sometimes. Most people are not really friends anyway, they are acquaintances.

I find them more meaningful
Posted on 8/18/24 at 10:49 pm to Geekboy
The few friends I have left, I'd die for.

Yes. And it's normal. A part of being normal.
Outside of my family and a select amount of close friends, I can't stand a lot of my not as close friends/people in general. I'll take some of the blame, but part of it goes to people in general just keeping to themselves.

I would look inward, if I was finding multiple old friends of mine annoying. Not saying you have a problem or whatever... just saying whatever change may not be them, but maybe you.
Maybe they're not great people and you've outgrown them.
Maybe you're curmudgeonly.

Yep. I am starting to find that solace is the only way to be truly happy.

Oh hell yeah they are irritating.. And backstabbing idiots... The older I get the more I tell people to eff off no matter how long I have known them... I have a friend that I have known for over 45 years that still acts like a fool.. I have had about enough of his stupidity...

I was thinking about this yesterday. I have a good friend for 45 years. I am actively avoiding this person. People's irritating personality traits seem to be magnified as we age. So, yes.

This.

I think it is a sign of the times. And I agree with you. I basically hate people overall.
