I have a child that works part time at a zoo. He really cares about the animals and takes good care of them, as much as he can. He can tell some funny stories and I get some crazy pictures from him sometimes. I don't think zoos are trashy but they could use additional funding or less animals with certain requirements. Some little POS's broke into an enclosure and beat up a turkey. They had to put it down. 
They were not adults and I don't know what happened to them.

I was just in DC's National Zoo today. Regular tourist crowd mostly.

Sorry Audubon zoo doesn’t cater to your utopia of hot uptown wives with children in smock clothing.
Fwiw, I can see the giraffes from my master balcony and hear the monkeys make noise sporadically throughout the year. I don’t have a problem with anyone parking in front my house to take their kiddos to an awesome zoo. You sound like a pretentious douche.
