If it's just me traveling for work, just a $5. If it's the whole fam damnly (6 of us, two under 3) I leave a "Sorry for the torndado" note and a $20.

Some people tell me they tip hotel housekeepers but in all honesty, I seldom leave them much. I generally leave whatever change is in my pocket along with a buck or two.

Usually tip them a couple of bucks the first day and leave a note with instructions with the tip on the counter in the bathroom. Normally ask for regular coffee, no decaf and clean towels only. Will leave a couple of bucks each day and leave that same note or a new one, if things change, next to it. A couple of times when I checked out, I left a note telling them the how long the things I left in the frig had been there. Left half of a Deano's pizza, some juice and most of a pint of half & half in a Lafayette Holiday Inn Express. Told them the date and where I bought them in the note.

I travel domestically 2-3 times a month and internationally 10-15 times a year. Tipping housekeeping staff is not a common practice in other countries. I have no problem tipping if it is deserved, but not just a blanket tip no matter what.

Why is it that we have 35 threads a week on the OT about tipping? Do we live in such a backwoods cesspool that people have no clue how this shite works?
