I might need a transplant someday, so I hope there's a lot of donors.

I'm on the registry. Let me know if you need a donor and we'll see if I'm a match.

And they actually can do it by apheresis now, too. I was told it's about 80% apheresis and 20% surgical harvesting.

I'm in the registry and have donated bone marrow before. They're a first class organization and took great care of me. It is an amazing feeling to know that some kid is alive today because of my bone marrow. I'd do it again in a heartbeat too.

Is being over 60 cause for disqualification?

Honest question, how long were you out of work? When I was prepping to leave, I told my employer a week and he was a dick until I told him why. That might be more motivation than anything for someone to sign up, that smug, "I'm a better person than you, let me off work" moment.

Not sure if everyone gets that same satisfaction, but hey anything to get people signed up, right? Also steak.

If I remember correctly, I flew out on Wednesday, had surgery Thursday, recovered Friday, and flew home Saturday. I was back at work on Monday. The pain really wasn't bad at all. Just a little backache and some fatigue that lasted a couple weeks.

I have thought about getting on the registry before, but honestly, have been a little scared of the process. I suppose there really is no reason to hesitate, considering that you can literally save someone's life with little more than an inconvenience.

And the steak????

I only ask because the reason that got me signed up was living in a tight-knit apartment complex. This one guy donated and came home, then for a week our "apartment mom" cooked him steak for a week.

Cancer survivor so I can't (presumably).

Did a bone marrow biopsy and it hurt more than anything I have ever experienced.

Just joined. I'm sure it hurts like hell but hearing how important the marrow is for people to live, seems like a good idea.

Don't remember anything about steak. But my surgery was at Georgetown university hospital. We found a legit BBQ place in DC that had a phenomenal beef rib.

And for those of you saying it would be painful, please research more. There's 2 options. One is no different than donating blood. That's peripheral blood stem cells. The other option is whole marrow. That's what I donated. They put you under general anesthesia and harvest the marrow from the back of your pelvis. It was only slightly painful after the fact. Nothing worse than a dull backache and a little fatigue. Within 2 weeks I was feeling good. Within 3 months everything was fully healed and back to normal.
