If you are doing compressions effectively...breaking ribs is a possibility.
However...a family member cannot sue you for that because anyone in the medical field knows that broken ribs are common with compressions. Just meant that you actually were giving effective compressions.
You would have to be one ungrateful son of a bitch to be alive....but upset that someone broke a rib or two in the process.

I would imagine it would be pretty expensive.
They've come down significantly. I believe I've heard between 1k-2k.

It's really simple, the pads even tell you where to place them.
The compressions matter more because it's supposed to help blood flow.

It basically tells you what to do. Just make sure you have the pads actually attached to the machine and that you turned the machine on.
Oh and don't touch the patient while it's doing it's thing as well.

They are basically, for lack of better words, plug and play. The ones we have, once turned on, will tell you step by step what to do. The AED pretty much takes care of everything but turning itself on and positioning the pads.
ETA: This picture may save a life.

Are you CPR certified?
No. I'd prefer not to open myself to litigation if I tried to help, but made the situation worse somehow in the deceased families viewpoint.
This is my stance.

There is no way to make a dead person worse.
But I'm sure the OT can think of something.

You guys that aren't CPR certified and refuse to be...
Do you at least know what to do if someone is choking?? You are taught what to do for choking as well when you get CPR certified.
I've been CPR certified since I was 12 years old(got certified for a baby-sitting course for the Red Cross...that got me lots of baby-sitting gigs cause of it). I just don't understand why people would be that against something that could possibly save another person's life.

I know many high schools now are teaching students CPR. Some states have made it a requirement to graduate. Which I think is a great thing.

CPR and First Aid certified. Trained to use the AED and one of our first responders at work. Luckily, I've never had to use an AED on anyone but the Heimlich that I learned in CPR was used on a retired counselor that was choking on fricking salad (she lived).

I don't think they teach that.

I will be getting certified soon since I watched a child saved this weekend with it.
I never want to experience that again as long as I live.

a family member cannot sue you
I'm not worried about a family member trying to take me to court. I'd be more worried about injuring a stranger in some fashion to where they lawyer up saying I caused some other injury that may not have occurred if it were a medical professional administering CPR.
