Are things still wrapped in the really thick clamshell plastic?

I have no idea what it’s called but it’s the plastic that scissors barely cut and you can damn near cut yourself on. I feel like I haven’t opened or seen this kind of packaging in years. Did it get phased out because it was a menace? The episode of curb your enthusiasm where Larry wrestled with opening it made me think about it.
