Are there a bunch if people out there that owe 10k in back taxes?

I got back $7500. My wife and I claim single and 0 dependents, even though we have two kids. Started this after we had to pay in 4k 5 years ago

I have family like this but even worse. Both husband and wife are six figure earners easily. They claim no exemptions, including themselves, no dependents, and have to have additional income pulled every check (on the order of a couple hundred dollars each per check). They said this is the first year in 5 years or so that they didn’t owe the government more than $1000

It’s not hard to turn 4K I’m underpaid taxes into 10k with penalties. I was in a dispute with the IRS years back.
The IRS will deal on penalties. They won’t forgive taxes. So when these companies advertise a client who owed 10 and paid 2, it means the IRS waived penalties and maybe the company found a couple of deductions. It doesn’t mean they got taxes forgiven.
What I don’t understand is how these companies make money.

It's not back taxes. They are taxes.

As someone that use to be a tax collector for the state of MS, it would shock you how many people owe 10k+ in back taxes. Even more shocking how many owe 100k+ in personal/sales/withholding.
