I had heard the same thing. Got ours 2 yrs ago never a problem. Best 6K I've ever spent. Get the ergo it's worth it.

I like it cold too. We bought one of the new breeze models. The sheets still feel fold when I wake up. We love ours! Was worth the 6k.

I bought one, gave it a legit try for about 6-7 weeks, and returned it. It was hot and as comfortable as it may feel when you try it out in the store and whatnot, you wakeup feeling stove-up as frick. It's as if you sleep in a body mold and my upper back and shoulders would be tight and sore until about lunch each day -unless I went to the gym before work.

They do sell the cooler models that are supposed to breathe better but you better be ready to drop another grand or so.

My opinion, look around. I know people that like TPs, but several had the same experience I did.

Mine isn't.

The gel topper is a 2 inch topper I got from Wal-Mart for like $80-$100.

There is a website called https://www.sleeplikethedead.com I did a ton of reading and comparing on that site before buying.

The only real difference in the Tempurpedics that I can see is they last the longest but I can buy that Sleep Innovations matress 5 or 6 times for the price of a Tempurpedic.

I've heard the complaint a lot. I don't find mine hot. Maybe warmer than a shitty traditional mattress, but I have zero complaints. And I'm a "hot sleeper"....(fat).

I am looking to buy a sleep number type of bed and found this thread. Which ones are the best?

They are not the same damn thing by any stretch, but for the average person, they can be a 90% solution as far as comfort level compared to a firm Tempurpedic.

The budget memory foam mattresses don't have high-density memory foam throughout the entire mattress like a Tempurpedic. That's part of the reason Tempurpedics are so expensive. The cheap ones use 2-3 inches of memory foam and then another 8-10 inches of "support foam." The density of the memory foam on the cheap ones is lower as well. They're comfortable, but they won't last as long. Doesn't mean they aren't reasonably durable, though, or that Tempurpedic is a better investment in terms of durability/dollar.

I took some advice from that sleeplikethedead forum to mimic the Tempurpedic experience as much as possible. I slept on a tempurpedic at my parents' house for a week (and still do every time I visit them), and decided to ditch my spring mattress for something similar. I used a combination of a memory foam mattress and a topper to "hack" the tempurpedic experience.

I bought the 12-inch king sleep innovations gel swirl (it's not as firm as the regular sleep innovations but still firm), plus a 4lb density 3-inch mattress topper. So, I have a cloud-like 3-inch topper over a firmer 2 inches of gel-swirled memory foam over 2 inches of air channel foam over 8 inches of support foam. The result is a thick mattress, but it sleeps even better than the Tempurpedic that my parents have. I could've probably just put the topper on a standard innerspring and be fine, but having it on a foam mattress really puts it over the top, and the topper will last a bit longer than usual because it's starting out with strong support rather than an old saggy mattress. The setup, including my bamboo sheets and pillowcases, was just under $900.

I found that memory foam mattresses do have an adjustment period if you're coming from years of innerspring, and the mattressunderground forum members have said the same. Also, they absolutely, undeniably retain more heat than regular spring/pillowtop, but I did not find it uncomfortably hot. There are mattress covers that help with this, but I don't need one. I keep my AC at 69 degrees 24 hours a day.
