Seems like many places have raised the recommended tip on their receipt. Today at Acme the waitress brings her little credit card machine to the table and rings us all up separately. Your choice to tip set in the default were 22% , 20%, 15% and No Tip. I usually tip 20%ish rounded off for quick math and often tip 20 plus especially at my regular haunts where I always use the same waitresses. But after she left I’m glancing at my receipt and we started talking about how this is becoming common. And what’s with the additional tip BS. With the price of food on the menu going up, the wait staff is already getting an automatic raise. And that brings me to another topic, they are selling 12 chicken wings for $19.99! WTF is this Wagyu chicken wings!!!!

Not sure but I got to where I’m paying cash when picking up food now because of the requested tip on carry out orders.

You found a salad under $25.00 unlike that other fella? Nicely done, Mate.

An industry that struggles to retain employees tries new ways to put more money in employees pockets. Gee I hate the idea too. They already make hourly wages, why should we tip?

And are you aware of what's going on in the economy or did you think only food at the grocery store costs more now?

I hear ya. I stop at a gas station and grab a biscuit and Monster drink in the morning and the gas station counter has a tip jar. Also see it at many fast food places.

Seemed backwards. Usually the salad is over priced and the wings reasonably priced.

A typical 10 top of hood rich BR people at Ruth’s Chris, shuffling cash around to the only person with a credit card to pay the bill.

Do you like waiting after you eat to pay? I think this is convenient for both parties and that’s why you see them more often. There should be an option where you can put in your own amount. Ignore the percents they give you and select the amount, since it’s also shown. Or hook up the waitress and slide cash, that point of sale (POS) is taxed.

Right. One of the guys always pays in cash. Me and the other cat always use credit because it's quick and easy and I get my little 1% money back on the my card. I may switch to cash for meals to take control of this situation.

Also I'll stop eating at Acme. The food at Don's is better, and I like the staff more.

The dirtiest place for tipping is Texas De Brazil. They add grat before bringing the ticket out but don't show it on the receipt. I tipped 20% on top of the 18% grat and was PISSED. I got the entire bill back from my credit card.

You also have to watch the % and $ amount they suggest. The machines where you click 15% or whatever are probably safe, but the % you see does not have to match the $ amount they show in the software. I saw people post about they % not lining up with the $ amount so I started paying attention. I found two restaurants where the $ amount suggested was higher than the % they suggested. I also found one that was way under...

I generally tip on the service, how long I am tying up the table and how well they fill my drinks. If I don't get a refill your tip is going to suck. Keep my cup full at a reasonable rate and I will probably be pretty damn generous. If we are holding up your table talking and shite I will tip more. I won't reduce tip based on what the kitchen does, I have had meals comped where I left huge tips because the waitress was good, the kitchen just sucked.

Good advice, I'm going to start paying more attention.

I don’t care how much your meal costs. Don’t tip a waitress $2.60. Give her at least $5 if she’s waiting on you even if your bill is $10.

What piss me off are the counter service places requesting a tip for the person taking my order. The only person getting any tip in that situation is the person who brings me my food if they also get me drink refills and bus the table as I’m leaving.

Thanks for the info Todd. Can I get a pic of the front and back of your credit card while you're at it.

I don't want to tell you what to do but you probably shouldn't post a picture of your reciept with your full name and payment info on a public forum.

It is like $2.75 per hour. Please tip if you see that your waiter/waitress is trying to take care of you.

I may sound like a cheapskate, but I look at how many tables a waiter is covering. 5 or 10 dollars a table can add up real fast. Next thing you know they will be making more than me per hour, and I make close to 30 dollars an hour now. Also, the establishment is another thing, if they are bringing out food taking orders is one thing, but if they are just refilling drinks and picking up empty plates that is another thing.

What on Earth could a waitress possibly be doing on a single meal for $10 that would justify that? Take my order and refill my drink maybe twice?
