Are public high schools measurably worse today than in the past?

I just finished reading “Inside American Education” by Thomas Sowell and he made a pretty convincing argument that public high school education is worse than it was in the 1960’s. He wrote that SAT scores hit an all time low in 1993.

In Baton Rouge they are far worse than they were in the early to mid 90s.

I took the SAT in 1993, sorry it was my fault.

Lee High, Woodlawn and BR High are probably the exception.

Yes. Much worse and on the downtrend with Common Core. CC will put the final nail in the US coffin. We will have a 3rd world education. We will have to allow immigrants into the country for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) majors.
The people that have created Common Core claim that it gets students college ready. They were asked if they will be ready for STEM subjects. The answer was: "NO."
There is a Youtube video on it.

Was a much better school in the 90s. The other 2 are magnet schools

High schoolers today are virtually illiterate about American history, the Constitution and the structure and function of American government. This is intentional.

It's kind of hard to tell from here in Louisiana since in lots of places here a lot of the people that can afford to send their kids to private school do so.
I've heard in other parts of the country the public schools are much more robust.

For sure in Louisiana. There's a reason for an abundance of private institutions.

This book came out in 1992. Yes, 25 years ago.
I'm not one to slam old research, it has lots to say about how we arrive at our current understanding. But you might want to catch up on more recent literature before concluding much.
