I figured everyone knew that phones, TVs, and anything else with an internet connection was listening in the background.

About 6 months ago I met with a customer about a upcoming project. We were talking when he said one moment and took a call on his cell. When he finished the call I said where are your ear buds? He said he had blue tooth hearing aids. We talked about the hearing aids for a few minutes and then finished the meeting. When I got home that night I checked facebook and had ads for the hearing aids my customer just got. Also did not have my phone during the meeting it was in the car charging. Customer is old school and has no FB account. Everytime I go to meet him I get the same hearing aid ads for a few days. Really crazy.

posted this in another thread a few weeks back.

I just checked my microphone settings in my privacy setting and everything was set to OFF except for my RING doorbell.

I guess I’m safe for now

Mine may be listening, but ads can’t target me due to my VPN.

I do that with all of my apps, doesn't matter. I still get the same things as stated in the OP. If you refuse to allow access the app ask for when you download it, then you won't be downloading that app.

The only way around it is to live like the Amish.

Me and the Mrs. were discussing dinner options one night and she suggested just ordering pizza because it was getting late and we didn't feel like cleaning up. 10 minutes later both of us got alerts from Domino's about their specials.

Same thing happened to us yesterday. But dominos isn’t even smart about it. I had already opened the app and placed an order. 10-15 minutes later I get an alert from the app. I thought it was the usual notification that our order was out of the oven. Instead it was a coupon offer. For the exact thing we had just ordered.

I would assume that it's all being recorded, archived, and put into some kind of text form.

It'll break the app. They're designed that way on purpose.

While ad blocking doesnt do anything to stop the spying, it does make the internet a much more wonderful experience and you dont have to see the effects. Get some good adblocker and some good lists and things are much more enjoyable.
