First off, I think this whole shutdown situation will end a lot faster than many think.

As soon as a majority of Americans start really hurting financially, this sentiment toward everything being closed will change with the quickness and the smart politicians will make it happen, virus be damned.

Just my opinion.

That said, there seems to be plenty of questionable shite going on such as Florida supposedly closing its border and companies screwing their employees with some of this sketchy compensation stuff.

That doesnt even mention any of the religious freedoms that some baw is gonna get incensed about if he sniffs a payday.

Flurry of lawsuits coming after things get back to normal or nah?

Nothing says our economy is back on track like a deluge of frivolous lawsuits.

As a lawyer, hopefully vast quantities get dismissed quickly.

Maybe suing insurance companies for coverage on business interruption policies, but not much more than that. Most courts are going to defer to the executive in emergency situations.

Are you going to take the Federal Govt to Federal Court? Or the State Govt to State Court?

Yep. People who represent insurance companies (not auto) are already seeing an uptick

It’ll be tough getting past that virus/bacteria exclusion in most business interruption policies.

There are rumblings of the fed government using insurance companies to dole out business interruption funds and a bill is making its way through the New Jersey legislature seeking to void the virus exclusion and fund the claims by levies against insurance companies. I don’t see the NJ bill passing, but these are strange times.

I think it will be an uphill battle to find coverage, but you’re right in that there may be political pressure exerted.

You have a link to that bill in New Jersey?

No they won’t. If anything most clients won’t be able to pay.

Here was my comment when someone sent that to me:

“So they’re allowing the insurers to recover from the state money that was paid out for virus related claims from a pool of funds that is going to be funded from levies by the state against those same insurers? Am I reading that right?

The only way this works is if the federal government gets involved and basically gives taxpayer money to the insurance companies for all virus-related claims.”

I was young at the time, but wasn’t something similar done for 9/11?

When has that ever stopped someone from suing?

I’m not sure. I was relatively young, too.

It’s not a bad idea to use insurers to evaluate claims and determine payouts, but they’d also no doubt lobby to be insulated from suit if they fricked up.
