Its pretty crappy for morale and culture since he has nothing in common with us.
Personally I've never discovered a person who I've had more than a brief interaction with that I didn't share SOMETHING in common. Conversely I've never found a person who I shared EVERYTHING in common.
And frankly, maybe you should look in the mirror regarding the "crappy morale." Rather than keeping an open mind and seeing this as a unique opportunity,you seem to have made a pessimistic, and frankly ignorant, conclusion.

Well, if someone currently there was capable and ready for the position, I have to say that it would royally piss me off. However, when reorgs happen, that is just a part of the game.
Remember, depending on how you handle yourself, it can mean either a lot of opportunity or the end of your job there...decide wisely.

Having worked with Asians, working under Indians is the absolute worst. East Asians have the need to please and make others happy. Indians aren't that way. They're a supremely demanding culture to everyone around them and don't really comprehend mercy or letting very minute things slide. It's all or nothing. Unless this guy they're bringing over is an exception, he's going to be impossible to work for.
The Indian clients are always the worst. Sure they can be friendly, but they won't compromise in the slightest, while the other Asians love haggling and drinking until you can't stand.
