I tried using a lot owned by Metropolis in downtown NOLA the other day. $5.00 for 10-hr "early bird". Of course there's a $1.65 "service fee" that you find out about after scanning the QR code. Then you provide your license # online and set up payment - it charges you when the scanner sees your plate leaving the lot.
Only problem is my plate is tied to an "Active Parking Visit" in Phoenix since November 10. My car has never been to Phoenix.
The current running tally is over $6,000. I passed on the early bird and am watching my credit card for weird charges. Virtually impossible to get through to a person via the "help" feature.
It's hard to read, but the bottom of second screenshot says "drive out to end your visit." I didn't use the lot but was puckered up as I drove off, wondering if I'd have to dispute a $6k parking charge.

Ever been to downtown Nashville? Parking lots all scan your license plate, if you don't pay, they "might" send you a bill, but it always ends up in collections.
It's such a racket. The signage is terrible, sometimes they get your license plate wrong, a ton of cases of people driving through the lot and not parking or even past the lot and getting absurd parking bills sent to collections. Like thousands of dollars because they don't have an end date.
ETA:
just saw post above mine - that's exactly what happens in all of these lots
I picked up my wife from a girls dinner in Chattanooga and drove through a lot to get near the front of a restaurant (never stopped) and they charged me open ended parking fine for like $750 before I noticed it and sent an email. Like a month later it was resolved and forgiven, but holy shite.

Please. My wife can spend hundreds of dollars on Amazon before getting out of bed.

We live in a surveillance state.
Both the government and private industry know where you are and what you are doing pretty much 24 x 7.
George Orwell was right. He was just off by a few years.

I also never signed up for it, gave it my card, or my cell phone, but I still get the texts (which is creepy in and of itself).
quote:wait you park in a private parking garage but it reeks of red light camera tickets?
It tells me my bill at the end (and my cumulative bill). I just delete it right away as it reeks of those stop light cameras that mailed you bills but were totally not enforceable. Are these things legal? They simply hoping some pay out of fear, or is it legit?
