Lobotomy, it is not a flying rat. Rats are destructive and chew things. If you get a big enough bat colony they just smell bad.

I've tried hanging them every which way I could. I even have a neighbor who actually went and caught bats, put them in his houses, and they wouldn't stay or come back. I know his approach has problems all around, but I'm beginning to think our area just has so many good, natural places for them to congregate that we just don't have a good draw for them.
I have purple martins, and while they don't catch too many mosquitoes, they catch plenty other bugs and are damn fun to watch.

The only issues with bats are their guano can carry some really nasty diseases and they are susceptible to rabies, though not as common as people think.

They also help build up your immunity to covid if you eat enough of them
