You believing you have people figured out is even funnier.

You asked me if this is news, I essentially said yeah to most it probably is, now you’re telling me…what, that it’s fake?
Dude, I’m just posting about what’s in the OP. Do you have a specific point to make or do you just like going around starting arguments?

You've cursed me out and tried to take a swing and what you imagine is my profession just because I replied to you.

That Progressive monitor is stressful af. Everytime your foot pressure edges the thin line between moderate to hard break, and then you wait to see if the monitor nanny alarm is going to go off. And each time you hear it, mentally calculating your insurance rate increase. I was cursing my wife for having us install them and counting the days before I could rip that thing out.

IF NYT says it's happening, it definitely must be

My specific points are it is not news that pretty much all apps that track your location sell that info. However, that info is not the driving factor is your car insurance rates. Anything else I can clear up for you?

Didn't you just say that you willfully give them the data so that it can save you money? Yet, when insurance companies pay these apps for that same data it isn't going to be used to raise or lower your rates in any way?
Yeah, you have it all figured out.

No, try reading before lashing out.

How does Life360 know if I’m driving or in an Uber?
Posted on 6/21/24 at 12:55 pm to LegendInMyMind
That explains why I pay $350/month for insurance on my 4 door car when I haven't had a wreck in 24 years and haven't has a ticket in many many years.

Don't go poking holes in a NYT article

Big tech already has all your data regardless of you using those apps.
I guess they could be getting it from my cell phone, but good luck getting it from a 2013 Tundra with a nav system I haven't used since 2014 as the screen quality and graphics resembles a Flintstone's episode. If the Flintstones had been filmed in black and white.

I had no idea. Thanks for letting me know. After I sell my car on Carvana, I'll share this with my network on insta, fb, and linkedin, They'll never fool me again.

Opting into it is one thing. A radar app (or any app) burying it in their terms of service and selling it to your insurance company is another.
The US really needs better protections for consumer data for this exact reason. People will say “read the TOS,” but there is absolutely no way those same people read the full TOS for every single app/service/device/etc. that they use. And then even if you do, it’s often intentionally vague how exactly they are using the data.
Device manufacturers have at least added layers of security so that you know when apps are collecting location data, which should theoretically weed out some of the shadier culprits. But then you get services that legitimately need your location in order to function that turn around and sell non-anonymized user data.
It needs to change. Unfortunately I doubt it will because the tech lobby is so strong in the US.

How can I sell my own information and be the one that profits from it?
