The public has a short attention span they are interested the first time something is done and quickly become bored. There was little public interest in the Apollo program after Apollo 11. You realize the mass of the robotics required to complete a mission is much smaller than the mass of the robotics + humans + life support required for the humans right? So how does this not make sense? The expensive part is getting something going fast enough, why add the mass of humans and their required life support unnecessarily? How much have the robotic mars missions cost? 2.5 billion for Curiosity alone

I'm all for increasing NASAs budget. It seems crazy the same people who complain about government waste for Obamaphones advocate for government waste sending humans into space unnecessarily though.

Those on the right tend to be very patriotic and nationalistic. Having the premier space program is aligned with those values. It's really very simple.

I received the HBO miniseries "From he Earth to the Moon" for Christmas.
So looking forward to watching it. I can't imagine how exciting it must have been to live at that time. To know what it was like to live in a world where no human had ever been to the moon and then suddenly, we had been.

Yeah, finally did that this fall. They are worth some money, but it too sentimental to me to even think about selling.
