If you look at the politicians pushing these and then follow the money trail it's almost like they were paid for these views.
A certain Vermont congressman has managed to build a nice 1%er lifestyle off contributions from Universities and Healthcare providers campaign and PAC contributions. It's almost like the university and healthcare industry thinks the upheaval of the free market could open them up to higher profit margins without the competition and with an "unlimited" income straight from taxpayers pockets.

They want a nuclear weapon badly. Someone over there figured out that the easiest way to get a few might be to piss off the people who almost certainly have SSBNs parked 1000 feet below the surface of the Persian Gulf doing their best ocean impressions.
ETA: A couple hundred feet. The Persian Gulf isn't that deep.
