A few weeks ago i ranted about a bad contractor. After seeing he wasn't waterproofing the bathroom correctly we let him go. I took time off last week and we did the tile and plumbing ourselves.

I had a plug installed in the new drain for the shower. It was not to be used yet. Well come to find out contractor was emptying his buckets in the drain. I ran a camera into drain and it's full of mortar. I ran the camera from the clean out from the other side and I can see it's about a 2 inch thick chunk of mortar with a piece of cement board keeping it back.

Getting to the P trap would take tearing out the new shower floor or going in from the bottom floor. I did locate the P-trap from the bottom, but getting it out would be tricky.

So I would like to break it apart and vacuum it up. The shower drain is only 3' from the main stack, so once the crud is through the drain it will go right out to the sewer, should be no where else any debris could jam or sit.

My gut tells me the only real fix is to change out P-trap. But I just want to explore options.
Could it be rooted out?

Maybe rooted or muriatic acid.

Sounds like he knew he was getting fired and dumped the mortar down the drain. Happens a lot. Sucks.

Hate to say it (and I'm no plumber) but I think you're about to have to take a big bite in a giant shite sammach. My brother had almost the same exact issue at his house from a shitty contractor and ended up having to tear out his shower drain and a bunch of pipes.

Rip out the p trap and about 3' of pipe. Fill completely with concrete. Find old contractor and beat him to death with it.

frick I hate shitty people.

Might want to look into either renting a sewer jetter or find a plumbing company that uses a jetter.

I did the shower plumbing and I almost put in a trap with a cleanout and I will if I replace this. I have a cleanout in the line between the stack and the drain, that I can access by removing a panel in the cabinet on the other side of the wall, but the trap itself is clogged thick.
' Issue is, I only have a little over an inch on the pipe between the shower drain and the P-trap. And I have to cut that almost blind. then the P-trap connects to the downstream pipe at the joist so I would have to cut the downstream pipe too. Add in a coupler. then hope I can make it all fit.

I doubt you can root it out, but it's worth a try to prevent the full replacement, IMO.

I've had some bad contractors do some pretty shitty stuff, but I think you have me topped on this one.

Mind giving a name so the OT doesn't use this sorry fricker? I'm not in to ruining careers/businesses, but that's unacceptable and he shouldn't even have a license if he's doing shite like this.

I would def try rooting it out first. If the mortar is from washing out buckets then it should be diluted and weak. Even a plumbing snake with the springy end might grind it out, but something with an edge will obviously work better.

You could also try a "drain cleaning bladder" that attaches to a water hose. It might build up enough pressure to push the debris out to the main sewer line.

Is it loose, or is it stuck in place??
