Don't go visit the magic stairs in the church in Santa Fe. But beautiful country those cities are in.

Why not? It's right there off the main street. I wouldn't go down there just for that, but there's a lot of other tourist stuff in the area.

Tucumcari? Why Tucumcari? I lived there for a bit and there is nothing there. The drive from there to Las Vegas NM is a thing of wonder, though.

The bridge over the Rio Grande gorge north of Taos is pretty cool. Also if going between Albuquerque and Santa Fe, stop by Madrid, a ghost mining town later resurrected by hippies, where the movie "Wild Hogs" was filmed. It's a little touristy but still laid back.

Farmington is a cool town in the summer. Whitewater rafting, jeeping, hiking and Pinion Hills Golf Course is one of the best public golf courses in America. They also have an outdoor theatre that hosts a summer musical for 6 weeks every summer. In August, catch the Connie Mack World Series.
If that isn't enough, Durango, CO is only an hour north !

I just got back from Tucumari. Just felt like going somewhere within driving distance today. I can't believe you actually lived in that town.

I want to go back and hike Mount Tucumari. I know it's private property, but how tight are they about visitors hiking it? And how tough a hike is it?

Chaco Canyon is a cool place to see. I went in summertime and it was scorching. Winter may be a good time.

Yeah, I actually lived there...a good long while ago. With a little counseling for PTSD I got over it.

When I lived there you could go up the mountain/mesa. It's an easy hike with a nice view, though nothing spectacular. Back in the day there were many pronghorns in the area. Heck, I drove up it one evening, but I wouldn't recommend that. I lost a muffler in the process.

New Mexico outside of Albequerque is a barren wateland of absolute nothingness. Just mile after mile of nothing.

It's like the landscape from The Road without the grey sky.

New Mexico is easily the bleakest most depressing place in the US I've been through.

You've, obviously, never driven North from Albuquerque. The drive from Santa Fe to Red River was pretty nice...

I was going to say the same thing, although you're more likely to find him eating at a restaurant in town though.

Good food, good beer, nice scenery....but Santa Fe is over run w/ tourists and Taos is really small and so not much to do in town. But we had a friend that lived there so we stayed a while. Neither place interested me enough to want to go back.

New Mexico...I picked up some hot Air Force chicks out of Holloman AFB. We all did LSD and saw the Greatful Dead at the Downs in Sante Fe. The sky had faces in it.

I think I have seen on here you do some photography. I have done NM a few times, from top to bottom. If you come in on I-10 to Las Cruces, the old part of town called Mesilla is pretty cool. I also did Roswell to Santa Fe, then to Albuquerque, good scenery , some old abandoned towns. If you stay on 10 through Las Cruces to Deming, the drive sucks, but 180 out of Deming towards AZ is a real nice drive. It is interesting how fast the terrain changes once you leave Deming going north. Once you leave Silver City, it's a quiet drive through the mountains. Hope this helps.

My sister in law and her husband just moved to Carlsbad. He works at that nuclear facility that is there. He's a physicist who was hired to clean up the mess that they recently had. Anyway, they absolutely hate it there.

Carlsbad caverns is supposed to be impressive.
