Anyone with experience in buying a truck out of state?

I'm in LA and looking in TX.
Just wondering if it's worth it to pursue something over there and if there are any pitfalls to look out for.

I'm in a similar situation, I would love some feedback as well.

I bought one from MS and registered it in LA. It was kind of a pain in the arse, but the people at the Mandeville DMV were extremely helpful (believe it or not). The gave me a list of all the documentation I would need to get it registered and licensed, including a copy of the seller's MS DL.

I'd you're buying site unseen have a third party inspection. I've also used escrow.com and was happy with them.
ETA: DA shippers is one of the more expensive shippers, but also more reliable.

bought the lady a toyota from Kinsel toyota in beaumont....they collected the ttl fees and charges and what not for the Parish she lives in and the submited all the paper. she got the license plate and registration in the mail in few weeks.

I've never bought any vehicle from Texas, but I have bought 3 vehicles from Georgia. It's a really simple process for the most part, just one extra step when you get it registered.
There are a couple of dealerships in Texas that operate almost solely on out of state sales and do very well. Texas Direct is the largest I believe. I'm sure they could give you some great advice.

Bought 2 cars from out of state. One from AL. and the other from TN. Not sure on TX though.

I bought a new Jeep from a dealer in Atlanta and saved about $4k. I did everything by fax.
I paid $550 for them to drive it to me. I didn't pay any Georgia registration fees or taxes, just the Louisiana ones when I registered it a week later.
I would do it again in a heartbeat if the price was right.

I bought a slightly used truck from TX a couple of years ago. The only part I didn't like is that it was difficult to negotiate price over the phone. However, their asking price was more than fair.

Texas has so many more options it's ridiculous and the prices are much lower than Louisiana. My past two trucks have been from San Antonio and Houston.
Everyone I know who has bought a truck in the past couple of years has gotten it from Texas
Eta: I drove right past my exact truck listed in BR for $19k to Houston and bought mine for $14k
